Come explore the divine feminine roots of the Purim story! While many would have us believe that Jewish traditions developed in a vacuum, cultural mixing and borrowing is a practice that goes back to the ancient world. We'll look at connections between Esther and Mordecai with the Babylonian gods Isthar and Marduk, as well as explore how Purim may have evolved out of spring fertility festivals common throughout ancient world. This could indicate why the prophet Jeremiah was so dismayed by the women of Israel baking cakes womb-shaped cakes for the Queen of Heaven (let's just say hamentaschen weren't always known as representing Haman's ears or hat)
